When I was asked if I could write something for the New Salem newsletter, I thought oh that’s nice and then I thought, why me? So I did my research on who else wrote in the newsletter and I saw doctor this, minister that, deacon this and so on. I thought, why would they ask me? Who am I? When I asked God, the answer I received was, “The message is simple, come to Me wholeheartedly, listen to what I want you to do, and do what I ask you to do. That’s what everybody is supposed to do.”

We all have the same duty: come to God with an open heart, listen to what He says, and do what He says. COME. LISTEN. DO. It’s great that people get credentials and have a name associated with them, yet that doesn’t make them who they are. It’s all about what’s inside the cracked vessel. What is pouring out of us? Did we do what God asked us to do today? Did we listen to His voice? The whole chapter of 2 Corinthians 4 talks about presenting our weakness and receiving resurrection life. “Therefore, since through God’s mercy we have this ministry, we do not lose heart” (2 Cor. 4:1).

I was also reminded of a chant that we had to learn at New Salem when I was in high school.

We are a chosen generation, the bible is our guide.

We read it, we study it, it’s the truth and it’s right.

It brought us out of darkness, into the marvelous light.

Disciples we are, for others to see.

A chosen generation we will always be!

The chant comes from the scripture 1 Peter 2:9.  “But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.” So I come writing this as just Allison reporting for duty!
